Introduction Who would have thought that a visit from the parents could end up in my mother writing a mystery thriller. They came over for a visit to sunny Pembrokeshire from Wellingborough in Northamptonshire. Not wanting to miss a chance of getting the most of out of them while they were here I sent dad off with Martin to rescue some battery chickens in north Carms and then tile the bathroom on his return and got my mother to tag along with me on my daily rounds.
It turned out to be a lovely hot and sunny week. The countryside was lush and colourful and the views were breathtaking. We covered virtually the whole of Pembs (and tweaked a bit of Carms as well), mucking out donkeys, feeding horses and walking dogs. It wasn't long before mother got the bug for a life as a pet sitter.
At the end of their visit, having settled in the ex-batts into their new home, visited our baby piggies, re-tiled the bathroom and picked up more dog poo that mother would care to mention, they returned to Wellingborough, thoroughly exhausted but with lungs full of good old Pembrokeshire air and a slight whiff of dung still clinging desperately onto the olfactory nerve, mother felt inspired to write her first story - Mystery of the Golden Dragon. I must point out that other than Martin and myself all the characters in this story are totally fictitious and bear no relation to any of our clients. Julia Hughes | |
