Newsletter

January 2012

Hello and welcome ...to our 2nd newsletter and may we wish you and all your 0, 2, 4 or more legged creatures a very happy New Year!

Competition

It's just turned 2012 so we thought we'd kick the year off with a fun little competition. Check it out on our website here: http://petsitterservices.co.uk/Competition.aspx or read below.

*** Win £30 pet sitting voucher for 2012 ***

Take some of the pressure off the cost of your next holiday with a pet sitting voucher!

The question is... How many animals do Martin and Julia Hughes own? Clue: They have cats, dogs, chickens, pigs, ducks, geese and lizards. Your answer should also include 4 goats which are to be added to their collection in the New Year. Take a sneaky peek at the 'Our Animals' page on the website to give you a bit more of a clue www.petsitterservices.co.uk.

Rules: To enter the competition, either fill in the 'Contact Us' form via the website or email hughes_petsitter@hotmail.co.uk, stating your answer followed by your name, address and a contact telephone number. One entry per household. Competition closes 29th February 2012. The winner (or nearest guesser) will be notified by email. Good luck everyone!

Free Range Eggs

Our little birdies are laying well at the moment. If anyone wants any chicken eggs, £1.10 per box of 6, please send us a text or email when you book our services and we'll drop you some off when we visit.

Rehoming Register

We often get asked if we know of anyone who would be able to either foster their pets for them while they spend time recuperating from major illness and/or operations or that they have or know of an animal that needs rehoming through one reason or other. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in taking on an animal in this capacity, please email me at hughes_petsitter@hotmail.co.uk with your details and what type of animal you'd be interested in either fostering or adopting and we'll let you know when they become available.

Aloe Vera Products

We try these products ourselves and they really work. Our daily slurp of Aloe Vera Gel drinks keeps us going throughout the day and evening and the hand creams are wonderful in putting the moisture back and soothing our otherwise dried up and cracked skin. The Aloe Vera Propolis crème is also safe to use on our animals if they get any sores or skin irritations. So don't forget to order your 100% Aloe Vera products by visiting the website at http://www.preselianimalhomecare.myforever.biz/.

Prices

Fuel costs are still high and due to increase again so I'm afraid we're going to have to reduce our free miles from the first 10 miles free down to 5. Those of you therefore who are further than 5 miles from your nearest pet sitter will, from 1st February be charged 40p per mile as a round trip. All other prices remain the same.

Recruitment

We are still on the look out for someone or a couple to join us to help us out with house sitting. If you know of anyone who's a totally animal lover and would like to earn a few extra pennies, please let us know.

Short Stories

Mother hasn't written much at the moment but please keep on checking out the Short Story pages for any additions. http://petsitterservices.co.uk/ShortStory.aspx.

Knitted Goods

I've started to list my knitted dog coats and pet blankets on ebay. Check me out – go to the advanced search and look for member seller ID "julesshepherd" or email address "hughes_treatmend@live.com". Add me to your saved sellers list if you want to get notifications when I list something new.

Thank you so much for your past custom and we look forward to you letting us continue to fuss and adore your pets in the future. Below are a few interesting facts about all different types of creatures – hope you enjoy them.

Julia & Martin

Honeybees - Worker honeybees are all females and are the only bees most people ever see. They forage for food and build and protect the hive, among many other societal functions.

Golden Eagle - The national bird of Mexico, golden eagles are North America's largest raptor and can dive upon their quarry at speeds of more than 150 miles per hour.

Canada Goose - Once threatened with dwindling populations, conservation efforts have made the Canada goose very common throughout North America. They can cover 1,500 miles in just 24 hours with a favourable wind.

Atlantic Bluefin Tuna – One of the largest, fastest, and most gorgeously coloured of all the world’s fishes. They attain their enormous size by gorging themselves almost constantly on smaller fish, crustaceans, squid, and eels. The largest tuna ever recorded was an Atlantic bluefin caught off Nova Scotia that weighed 1,496 pounds.

Boa Constrictors - Female boas incubate eggs inside their bodies and give birth up to 60 live babies. Boas are about 2 feet (0.6 meters) long when they are born and grow continually throughout their 25 to 30-year lifespan - the largest ever found measured 18 feet.

Domestic Dog - Despite their many shapes and sizes all domestic dogs, from Newfoundlands to pugs, are members of the same species, Canis familiaris. Related to wolves, foxes, and jackals, all dogs, domestic or wild, share a common ancestor in the small South Asian wolf.

Snow Leopard - Native to the Central Asian mountains, the snow leopard is a rare sight, with only about 6,000 left in the wild. They have powerful legs and are tremendous leapers, able to jump as far as 50 feet.

Horses - There is only one species of domestic horse, but around 400 different breeds that specialize in everything from pulling wagons to racing.

Common Earthworm - They are hermaphroditic but do not self-fertilize. Following mating, each worm forms a tiny, lemon-shaped cocoon out of a liquid secreted from its clitellum, the bulge seen near the first 3rd of it's body. The sperm and egg cells are deposited inside the cocoon, and it is buried. After a two- to four-week gestation period, the baby worms emerge.

Seahorses - Male seahorses are equipped with a brood pouch on their ventral, or front-facing, side. When mating, the female deposits her eggs into his pouch, and the male fertilizes them internally. He carries the eggs in his pouch until they hatch, then releases fully formed, miniature seahorses into the water.

African Elephant – Earth's largest land mammals, at birth, elephants already weigh some 200 pounds and stand about 3 feet tall. Their trunk alone contains about 100,000 different muscles and have two fingerlike features on the end that they can use to grab small items.

Polar Bear - They give birth in winter, usually to twins and have stark white coat that provides camouflage in surrounding snow and ice, but under their fur, have black skin – all the better to soak in the sun's warming rays.

Newsletter

June 2011

Hello and welcome to our first newsletter. As a valued customer, we are writing to update you with some changes to the services we offer.

Day Care

Just a quick reminder that we offer day care as well as single visits and house sitting. So if you've got a particularly long day at work and you don't need someone to sleep over at your home, you can hire us to say with your animals during the day.

Aloe Vera Products

We are also now selling Aloe Vera products. They are all 100% aloe vera, specially tested on humans for animals! So if you or your pets have any problems or you just feel like pampering yourself, I'm sure we'll have a solution for you. There's more information on these products overleaf or you can just visit the website at http://petsitterservices.co.uk/AloeVeraProducts.aspx for details on how to order.

Prices

It's been three years now since we put up our prices and unfortunately we are unable to keep up with the horrendous rise of fuel as well. See overleaf for more details.

Recruitment

Due to the increasingly high demand for our services, we are looking to recruit a pet sitter to help us out, especially with the house sitting. If you know of anyone who's a totally animal lover and would like to earn a few extra pennies, please let us know.

Short Stories

If you fancy keeping up with my mother's scribblings, there are a couple of short stories posted to the website, just visit http://petsitterservices.co.uk/ShortStory.aspx.

Knitted Goods

While I appreciate we're probably in for a nice summer, I'm still knitting and crocheting dog coats and pet blankets. If you'd like something made up that's totally unique, then please email me with your details.

Thank you so much for your past custom and we look forward to you letting us continue to fuss and adore your pets in the future.
